Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves Garlic
  • 1 medium Onion

Instructions

  1. 1

prepare water and let it cool slightly to about 200°F (93°C).

    💡 Mise en place.

  2. 2

Place Vietnamese coffee filter (phin) on top of a glass or cup.

💡 Properly heated oil prevents sticking and ensures good browning - the shimmer indicates the right temperature.

  3. 3

Add 2-3 tbsp of dark roast Vietnamese coffee grounds. Level but do not tamp.

    💡 Don't overcrowd.

  4. 4

Pour a small amount of hot water to wet the grounds. Wait 30 seconds.

    💡 Simmer for flavor.

  5. 5

Pour remaining hot water (about 1 cup) in a circular motion. Cover with lid.

    💡 Fresh herbs brighten.

  6. 6

Let coffee drip through for 4-5 minutes until fully extracted.

💡 Taste and adjust salt last.
