Grilled Asparagus
French grilled asparagus with lemon, garlic, olive oil, and parmesan shavings.
Ingredients
- •500 g Asparagus (trimmed, tough ends removed)
- •3 tablespoons Olive oil
- •2 cloves Garlic (minced)
- •1 teaspoon Lemon zest
- •1 teaspoon Red pepper flakes
- •30 g Parmesan (shaved)
- •1 to taste Salt
- •1 to taste Black pepper
- •1 tablespoon Fresh parsley (chopped)
Instructions
- 1
Snap off woody ends of asparagus - they break naturally at the right spot.
💡 The snap point is where tender meets tough. Dont cut - snapping preserves texture.
- 2
Toss asparagus with 2 tbsp olive oil, salt, pepper. Let sit 5 minutes.
💡 Oil coating helps charring and prevents sticking. Resting softens raw edge.
- 3
Heat grill or grill pan to high. Add asparagus in single layer. Grill 2-3 minutes per side until charred but still crisp-tender.
💡 High heat = char flavor. Moving too often prevents char. Let it sit.
- 4
Mix remaining oil with garlic, lemon zest, red pepper flakes. Drizzle over hot asparagus.
💡 The residual heat cooks the garlic just enough to take raw edge off.
- 5
Top with parmesan shavings and parsley. Serve immediately.
💡 Parmesan melts slightly from heat - that contact umami is the finish.
