French Onion Soup
A comforting bowl of soup with perfectly balanced flavors. Each spoonful warms the soul with savory goodness.
Ingredients
- •4 large Yellow onions
- •4 tbsp Butter
- •2 tbsp Olive oil
- •6 cups Beef broth
- •1 cup White wine
- •4 sprigs Fresh thyme
- •1 whole Bay leaf
- •1 loaf Baguette
- •2 cups Gruyere cheese
- •1 tsp Salt
- •0.5 tsp Black pepper

Slice onions thinly and evenly, about 1/4 inch thick.

Melt butter with olive oil in a large Dutch oven over medium heat.

Add onions, stir to coat. Cook for 10 minutes without stirring to develop color.

Reduce heat to medium-low. Continue cooking, stirring occasionally, for 45-60 minutes until deeply caramelized.

Add white wine, scrape up browned bits. Simmer until reduced by half.

Add beef broth, thyme, and bay leaf. Simmer for 20 minutes.

Season with salt and pepper. Remove thyme and bay leaf.

Toast baguette slices. Ladle soup into oven-safe bowls.
