Ingredients

  • 1 loaf Baguette
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 150 g Ham
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 100 g Gruyere cheese
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 3 cloves Garlic
  • 1 medium Onion

Instructions

  1. 1

Butter one side of each bread slice with softened butter.

💡 Add in small pieces to incorporate gradually. Watch for browning - it burns fast.

  2. 2

Layer ham and Gruyere cheese between two bread slices, butter-side out.

    💡 The assembly.

  3. 3

Heat a skillet over medium heat. Place sandwich in pan.

    💡 The finish.

  4. 4

Cook for 3-4 minutes until golden brown, then flip and cook other side.

💡 Toast until raw smell disappears.

  5. 5

For the bechamel: melt butter, whisk in flour, cook for 1 minute.

💡 Low and slow yields tender results.

  6. 6

Gradually add milk, whisking constantly until thick. Season with nutmeg.

💡 Taste and adjust salt last.
